6 methods to develop a good environment at work

On average, people spend nearly 2,000 hours per year at work. In order to make the best use of that time, it is important to create a positive environment where you can feel motivated and productive. While some things may be out of your control, there are easy ways you can enhance the overall work environment, so your team feels supported, respected, and valued.

Here are 6 different methods you can implement right away. 

1. Encourage Open Communication 

Developing open communication across all levels of an organization is key to creating a safe and supportive environment. You can encourage employees to speak up and share their thoughts in meetings in a low-risk setting. For example, in addition to open discussions, you can provide digital options such as Q&A or suggestion chat boxes where team members can directly input data without feeling intimidated or concerned about any misperceptions. Be sure to acknowledge and follow up with each employee in order to build trust, respect, and solutions. With an open communication policy, employees can learn from each other and develop better working relationships which will lead to increased productivity. 

2. Foster Team Building Activities 

One of the most effective ways to break the humdrum of the everyday work routine is through fun team building activities. Not only can you strengthen relationships between colleagues, but you can also increase collaboration among teams, encourage problem solving skills, and ultimately bring teams closer together. Choose activities that are sure to be engaging and fun so that everyone can participate without feeling overwhelmed or uncomfortable. By practicing flexibility and understanding, managers can show employees their willingness to be considerate during times of challenge.This could also include allowing flexible working hours for parents who need childcare support or providing bereavement leave if needed. If organizations want to encourage employee engagement, they must provide opportunities for growth.
